Week 22: The Great Gatsby

Welcome back to the blog! Yes, 52 books in 52 weeks was ambitious, it’s a mountain of books, but hey - any goal worth it’s weight in ink (and the pulp and fiber it’s written on) has to be set so high that you must stretch to achieve it! As said by Ralph Waldo Emerson, “We aim above the mark to hit the mark,” and a book a week was (way) above the mark of becoming a person who reads regularly. That being said, it’s week 22, it’s the month of back-to-all-things, and for me this means back to the books!

Week 13: The Alchemist.

I had heard a ton of buzz about this book before finally getting my hands on a copy, and after reading I have to say that the messages in this book were well worth the wait. As you may have noticed from the past 12 weeks of 52 in 52, I mostly lean towards business books or straightforward self-development how-to books, and I’m not one to generally pick up a fable.

We’re getting deep this week. Past the surface, beyond your ego, your spirit is in the spotlight.

Week 10: The Book of Awesome.

           image

I didn’t write about this book at first because I figured that everyone I know had already read it (yes, it is that awesome); however, I went home for a visit last week and saw that my Mom had borrowed it from the library. So, in the spirit of Mother’s Day yesterday, the fact that people are still visiting libraries regularly, and this amazing book, this week is dedicated to The Book of Awesome.

Week 9: Moonwalking with Einstein.

“Imagine waking up tomorrow and discovering that all the world’s ink had become invisible and all our bytes had disappeared. Our world would immediately crumble. Literature, music, law, politics, science, math: Our culture is an edifice built of externalized memories.”

Week 8: a wait.

Hey friends and followers!

It’s moving day! Had a busier Monday than I expected - and with less Internet connectivity - so this week’s blog post will be a little delayed.

Pro: we won’t be setting up Internet for the summer in this apartment, so I’ll have lots of down time to catch up on my reading. ;)

Expect a mid-week post.

Thanks for following!

Week 7: Are You Smart Enough to Work at Google?

What’s your instant reaction to this title? I was perusing online bookstores searching for some blog inspiration (predictable!), when I came across this gem. I can’t say that I have my career sights set on working at Google in particular, but I do believe in checking out any method that might provide an advantage in the New Economy – and this is definitely an interesting approach!

Week 5: Open.

I know the sports world is abuzz about the Masters this past weekend and the Jays’ Home Opener game tonight, but I’m going to be discussing a different sport today: tennis.

Week 4: Now, Discover Your Strengths

There are three types of people who might be reading this blog post: those who have done their StrengthsFinder profile, those who have done their StrengthsFinder profile and also read the accompanying book, and those who have no idea what any of that means.

Week 3: 18 Minutes

For the past three weeks, I have been acting on my goal of blogging about the books I read that inspire me, once a week, every Monday, for 52 weeks straight. We’re on week 3, and I’m getting into a habit of reading, writing, thinking, and using my time more effectively to ensure that I am constantly working toward this goal (and if you’ve read Robin Sharma’s The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari, you would know that it takes 21 days to create a habit that sticks). Thank you, dear reader, for holding me accountable to this.

Now, onto the real topic:18 Minutes: Find Your Focus, Master Distraction, and Get the Right Things Done by Peter Bregman
