Week 10: The Book of Awesome.

I didn’t write about this book at first because I figured that everyone I know had already read it (yes, it is that awesome); however, I went home for a visit last week and saw that my Mom had borrowed it from the library. So, in the spirit of Mother’s Day yesterday, the fact that people are still visiting libraries regularly, and this amazing book, this week is dedicated to The Book of Awesome.
Neil Pasricha was just your average fellow when he had an idea. After going through some tough times, he decided to create a blog to write out one awesome thing about life every weekday, starting at #1000 and counting down. Pretty simple, right? It struck a chord with readers and the blog exploded, leading to Book #1, Book #2, and the holiday version.
It is basically a gratitude list - a tool to mindfully track the things in your life that you are grateful for, which keeps your mind on the positive aspects of your life. I have kept my book on my bedside table for months now, and every so often will read a few awesome things (I just flipped to “Gym Pain” - ohhhh how awesome it is). It is literally impossible to not crack a smile when reading.
If you can’t get your hands on the book, check out the official 1000 Awesome Things blog (which reached it’s 1000th thing just last month) and Neil’s TEDxToronto talk below.
Do you keep a gratitude list? What are your tricks for staying positive?
Sharing your ideas with the world for free on tumblr = awesome.
The sense of satisfaction after 10 weeks of blogging = awesome.
The fact that you, my friend, have read to the end of this post = awesome.
Until next week,
Sara
